Namwala Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Moono Herbert Mapani, on 29 April 2026 commissioned and handed over a 1×3 classroom block at Malima Community School in Mandondo Ward. The facility was constructed under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a total cost of K1,100,000.00.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the representative of His Royal Highness Chief Nalubamba, the District Commissioner Mr. Ephraim W. Shandavu, traditional leaders, heads of government departments, teachers, learners, and members of the community.
In his keynote address, Hon. Mapani described the classroom block as a symbol of hope, dignity, and government’s commitment to improving access to education in rural communities. He noted that the facility would provide a conducive learning environment, reduce the burden on learners who previously had to walk long distances, and improve teaching and learning conditions.
He further noted that Malima Community School, established in 2020, initially operated under a tree and later in a makeshift classroom, offering classes up to Grade Two. Although the school has since expanded to Grade Three, learners in higher grades continue to walk approximately six kilometres to Makotoolo Primary School, a situation that has presented significant challenges for both learners and their families.
Hon. Mapani commended the dedication of volunteer teachers who have sustained the school in the absence of trained government staff, describing their service as a strong demonstration of commitment and sacrifice for the future of the children. He assured the community that government would engage relevant authorities to facilitate the deployment of trained teachers and work towards upgrading the school into a fully-fledged primary school.
The commissioning of the classroom block marks an important milestone for Malima Community School, providing a safer and more conducive learning environment. The development is expected to improve access to education within the community and reduce long-distance walking for learners, particularly young children.
Hon. Mapani urged the community to take ownership of the infrastructure and ensure its proper maintenance, emphasising that it belongs to both present and future generations.
