The Member of Parliament for Namwala Constituency, Hon. Moono Herbert Mapani, on 29 April 2026 commissioned and handed over a newly constructed 1×3 classroom block at Nakachenje Community School in Kabulamwanda Ward. The project was funded under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of K1,200,000.00.
The event was attended by the representative of His Royal Highness Chief Mungaila, the District Commissioner Mr. Ephraim W. Shandavu, civic leaders, traditional authorities, heads of government departments, teachers, learners, and members of the community.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Mapani said the project formed part of government’s efforts to address long-standing educational challenges in the area. He noted that learners at the school had, for many years, received lessons under trees and in temporary grass-thatched structures without adequate furniture. He stated that the new facility would provide a conducive learning environment and restore dignity to both learners and teachers.
Meanwhile, Nakachenje Community School teacher, Mr. Mapenzi, said the school was established in 2001 and initially operated with untrained volunteer teachers. He explained that the school only received its first two trained teachers in 2022, who remain the only trained staff at the institution to date. He further stated that the school originally offered classes from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Grade 4, but was later extended to Grade 5 following the deployment of trained teachers. He added that learners in Grades 6 and 7 continue to walk about 3 kilometres to Kabulamwanda Primary School to access further education.
Mr. Mapenzi expressed gratitude for the new classroom block, noting that the permanent structure would improve learning conditions and help reduce absenteeism and school dropout rates.
The commissioning of the classroom block marked an important milestone in improving access to education and strengthening learning conditions in the area.
