Namwala Constituency Member of Parliament, Moono Herbert Mapani, on 4 May 2026 officially commissioned and handed over a newly constructed 1×3 classroom block at Sichaanda Primary School in Mbeza Ward under Chief Nalubamba. The project was funded under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a total cost of K1,039,718.46.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Hon. Mapani said the new classroom block would help ease congestion, improve the learning environment, and enhance teacher–pupil interaction, key factors in improving academic performance. He added that the school had also received 100 two-seater desks, in line with government policy to ensure that no learner sits on the floor, thereby promoting comfort and dignity among pupils.
He commended the local community for its strong commitment to education, noting that much of the school’s earlier infrastructure had been built through community-driven efforts. Existing facilities, including two 1×2 classroom blocks, were constructed by the community, while an additional 1×3 block was later built with support from a cooperating partner.
Hon. Mapani emphasised that government support through the CDF is intended to complement such local initiatives, describing these partnerships as essential for sustainable development.
Sichaanda Primary School was established in 2002 as a community school, initially serving only 10 learners who attended classes under a tree. The school was officially handed over to the government in 2018. As enrolment grew, the community constructed a temporary grass-thatched structure in 2022, which later collapsed, prompting the construction of the first permanent 1×2 classroom block that same year, followed by another.
Today, the school has grown to over 500 learners, of these 303 are boys and 286 are girls.
The newly constructed CDF-funded classroom block is expected to significantly improve learning conditions and support the school’s continued expansion.
