Government has disbursed K2,759,241.50 to 93 beneficiary groups in Namwala Constituency under the 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Empowerment Grants.
Speaking during the official handover at the Civic Centre in Namwala Central Ward, Member of Parliament Hon. Moono Herbert Mapani said the grants are aimed at empowering communities, strengthening the local economy, and improving livelihoods.
He noted that the initiative goes beyond financial support, describing it as a deliberate effort to promote sustainable economic activity.
“This is not just about handing over cheques, but about empowering our people and improving livelihoods,” he said.
Beneficiaries, drawn from all wards, include women’s clubs, youth groups, and cooperatives engaged in income-generating activities such as cattle rearing, piggery, goat rearing, poultry, maize milling, gardening, and small-scale trading.
Hon. Mapani highlighted progress under the programme, stating that between 2022 and 2025, K7,717,000 was disbursed to 304 groups. With the 2026 allocation, total disbursements now stand at K10,476,241.50, benefiting 397 clubs and cooperatives.
He said the figures reflect Government’s continued commitment to grassroots development and economic empowerment, and urged beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly as seed capital for sustainable projects.
“These grants are not meant to be shared out as cash. There is no growth in sharing money, but in working together, investing together, and growing together,” he cautioned.
The lawmaker encouraged beneficiaries to invest in approved projects, uphold accountability, and focus on long-term impact, including job creation and improved livelihoods. He also urged those who did not benefit in this phase to remain patient and continue applying.
Hon. Mapani concluded by calling for collective responsibility in driving development.
“Government has provided these opportunities. It is now up to you to turn them into success stories,” he said.
The event was attended by traditional leaders, government officials, council leadership, and beneficiary groups.
