Namwala Town Council today held its 17th Ordinary Council Meeting, marking the final ordinary sitting before the dissolution of office bearers on 15th May 2026.
In his communication, the Council Chairperson, Cllr. Abel Moonga described the meeting as a special occasion marking the end of an important chapter in service to the people of Namwala District. He thanked councillors, management and members of staff for their dedication, unity and professionalism throughout their tenure from 2021 to 2026.
The Chairperson highlighted notable development milestones recorded across all the 16 wards through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Government programmes. He stated that over 70 community projects valued at more than K66 million were implemented between 2022 and 2025. These included the construction of schools, health facilities, maternity annexes, sanitation facilities, boreholes, feeder roads and traditional leaders’ palaces.
He further noted that over K22 million had been invested in the education sector, while 4,710 desks had been distributed to schools across the district. In addition, Government continued to support empowerment programmes, bursaries and skills training initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and empowering youths, women and vulnerable learners.
The Chairperson also highlighted progress made in improving road connectivity, water supply and healthcare service delivery through the drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes, procurement of equipment and construction of health infrastructure.
In his closing remarks, the Chairperson appealed to councillors to remain united and conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 2026 General Elections. He further encouraged councillors to prepare for any outcome of the elections by having alternative sources of livelihood to sustain themselves beyond political office.
He thanked all councillors, management and members of staff for the cooperation and teamwork exhibited during their tenure and wished all aspiring candidates well in the forthcoming elections.
At the close of the meeting, civic leaders and members of staff shared cake and lunch in celebration of the Council’s achievements and service to the people of Namwala District.
