ZAMBIA DEVOLUTION SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Zambia Social Development Project (ZSDP) is a Government initiative, supported by the World Bank, aimed at improving access to quality social services and strengthening community resilience. The project focuses on reducing social vulnerability, enhancing local service delivery systems, and empowering communities to participate in development planning.

ZSDP funds district-level capital projects such as health posts, classroom blocks, water systems, and community facilities identified as local priorities.

Funding is channelled to districts like Namwala to:

  • Strengthen local development capacity through improved infrastructure and service delivery.
  • Promote community-driven development by supporting projects identified through participatory planning.
  • Reduce inequality and vulnerability by addressing historical underinvestment in rural areas.

In Namwala, ZSDP has supported major infrastructure works, including the construction of a modern bus station to enhance mobility, boost local commerce, and provide safer transport services.
